Book of the Month Subscription Review!

So, I caved. I had no intentions of joining a book subscription, like, ever. Not because I thought negatively of them, I just thought they were more expensive than me just binge-shopping at my local bookstore. Which, when I say that out loud, sounds ridiculous. I had found a few subscriptions, but I went with Book of the Month. If you were debating on whether you should commit or try it out, I hope this post helps you!!

Book of the Month is a subscription that picks 5 books per month (hence the name). What I think is super cool is that these books are all brand new. Like 27.99-at-your-local-bookstore-hardcover-fresh-off the-press-new. They are hand picked, and each book falls into a different genre, so you're not stuck picking between 5 romance books. They give you little blurbs, trigger warnings, reviews, and more. They feature new authors, pre-releases, new releases etc. I think that that is my favorite thing about it. It allows you to try new authors or read a brand new book as soon as it comes out. They also have what they call the BFF Program. So each month that you order a book, you earn one credit and a little stamp for that month. Once you earn 12 stamps (i.e. order one book per month for a whole year), you're considered a BFF. This is like a loyalty program! Once a BFF, you get extra goodies during your birth month, an adorable tote bag, and you get to pick from the Book of the Year selection at the end of each year. It seems pretty fun, and I hope to reach that status at the end of the year!

BOTM is $14.99 a month. This covers your pick of book for that month, and the shipping is free! When you first sign-up, you actually get to pick your book for $9.99, which is pretty sweet. I think that it's a great price for the books that they offer. Like I said, they are literally brand new books that would cost upwards of $25-$30 dollars at any bookstore. You get it at $10+ off, which is pretty neat.

The only thing that I found misleading was the To Be Read section of BOTM. They have a catalogue of each book that was selected as a book of the month! I thought this was really cool, and I was under the impression that if you weren't a fan of any of the selections for the month, you could pick one from past months. This is not the case! If you select a book from your TBR section, then it adds it to your box as an "add on". You still need to pick a book from the 5 provided for the month, and you'd need to pay for book you "added on". It's $9.99 for the add-on, which isn't crazy considering you'd get two new books!

In the end, I think that this subscription is pretty worth it. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone and lets you try brand new authors and new genres. I think that it's pretty well priced, and I get really excited when I see that bright blue box on my doorstep! I look forward to each month and getting to see what the new books are!
