Legendary by Stephanie Garber

"Every story has four parts - the beginning, the middle, the almost ending, and the true ending."

Warning: if you haven't checked out my review on the first novel of this series, Caraval, I suggest reading it first so you have a little bit of an idea of what's going on here!!

Legendary was SUCH a great follow-up to Caraval! I actually enjoyed it way more, and I loved getting to see the story from Tella's eyes.

"If you can convince yourself it's true, you can convince anyone."

Legendary takes us to a whole new game in the Capital! Tella and Scarlett tag along: Scarlett does because she is smitten with Julian, and Tella does because...well...she has even more secrets and promises she has to make good on. We learn that Tella has promised a secret 'friend' something in return for that friends help...only it's not the easiest thing to give. She needs to uncover Legends true identity, but to do that, she needs to participate in the game. Tella quickly gets swept up in the game, in new love, the Fates (who are these long forgotten gods of sorts, who want revenge), and more secrets. The story is fast paced, exciting, and a wicked good time!

"Legends are supposed to be better than the truth."

I have to say: I LOVE Jacks. Sorry. #TeamJacks. I know he's supposed to be rotten and vile, but he's kinda hot and kinda a good time. I love him with Tella, and I think she infuriates him just the perfect amount. I love his character and his wit, and I'm excited to see more of him in the next book! Tella took me by surprise! I really wasn't her biggest fan in the first book, but she is fun and witty and charming in this one. I grew to like her and I can't wait to see what trouble she gets into next.

D. a. n. t. e. What a guy. I won't spoil it BUT i did see his part in the whole thing way before it was shown. I will admit that I did not expect him to do what he did at the end, that was a dick move. I can't pin-point his motives, his feelings, or what he's really thinking, so it makes for a fun character! Now that we know what we know, I'm interested to see what this means for the next book, and what Tella will do!

Scarlett is still very flat and dull to me. She complains to much, and honestly her little side gig of trying to juggle these two men won't end well for her. I'm glad that she wasn't as involved with this book and plot. I'm hoping to see more of a growth in her in the last one!

"Invite the lie to play until you become so comfortable with it that it feels like the truth."

All in all, this was a great read! It was a great second book to this series, and I'm glad I kept going with it! I'm excited to see where these characters go next, and what trouble they get into!
