Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin

"Where you go, I will go. Where you stay, I will stay."

This has been a long awaited read. I have seen so much hype for it on Tik Tok and I was determined to read it. I'm so so so happy to say that it genuinly lives up to the reputation. This is a fantastic novel and it is one of those that I will read, and reread time and time again.

"Lou. A thief with a man's name."

This book has everything you could possibly want: magic, amazing friendships, a little bit of spice, sarcasm, enemies to lovers, and more!! Serpent and Dove centers around our protagonist Lou. You all should know by now that I'm obsessed with having a morally grey protagonist. They seem so much more real and way more relatable. Lou is living her best life as a thief in a city where magic is forbidden. Think back to the salem witch trials, and it was more or less the same. Lucky for us, Lou is a witch. I mean, it wouldn't be a YA Novel without a little fun. Lou's life turns upside down when a bunch of events end up forcing her to marry a literal witch hunter. *Cue for the amazing enemies to lovers plot to begin*. Lou has to keep her real identity, her past, and more from her new husband, who she is definitely falling for.

"If this agony was love, perhaps Morgane was right. Perhaps I was better off without it."

Of course, there's way more to it (like Lou's past coming back to haunt her, who Reid really is, etc) BUT I don't want to spoil too much. I really enjoyed this book and its characters. Coco is the best kind of friend a girl could ever want. Ansel is the cutest little angel baby who needs the most protection. I was pleasantly surprised by Beau (page 487 if you know what I mean) and he turned out to be rather hilarious. I'm excited to see how he further progresses throughout the next book. Lou is a badass who has the best sarcastic quips and is just so cool. I really loved Reid's character development throughout the entire novel, and I'm excited to see how he deals with everything in the next book!!

Lastly, I loved the french theme to it all. Being from Canada, and having known french, I was able to pick-up on some of the french cuss words and other little phrases. I thought it was really fun and added an extra element to the whole world building. All in all, I totally recommend this to anyone!!
