The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Oh. My. Gosh. I don't think I've been this hooked to a book series since I started reading the Throne of Glass series. Y'all, when I tell you I finished the first, stood up, got in my car, and bought the last two books in this trilogy the SAME day, you better believe it!!

My favorite thing about this book is that our main bad bitch, Jude, is a morally gray character. Now, this isn't totally rare, but she's written so well that you really find yourself in these crazy dilemmas on who to trust and if her actions were the right moves, etc. It's so much fun to be in that type of position. She wants power, she wants to not feel weak and she wants to be seen as someone who is strong, and shes a Bad. Ass.

So the whole series start with the murder of Jude, Taryn, and Vivi's parents by this huge green dude. He then takes the girls off to Faerie, which sounds all cute and fun and magical but couldn't be further from it. They are like the faeries from Disney...if they were rated R, loved bloodshed, and could care less about clothing or morals. We follow Jude along in this world, a world where literally everything could kill her, trick her, poison her, etc. She's so intelligent and she begins to really not take shit from anyone, and that's where everything really kicks off.

I'm just going to say that I was really anti-Cardan when I started this, and I couldn't figure out how anyone would ever ship Cardan and Jude together...but as to not spoil too much, just wait til the last few chapters. I quickly changed my mind after that.

This book is addicting, cleverly written, and the characters are super cool. The entire plot is insanely driven, and you really get the feeling that you can't trust anyone Jude meets. It's fun, action packed, and the plot twists just keep coming. I'm very excited to dive into the next two books!
