Another book review! Yay!
Now, my go to book is not usually adult fiction (YA til I die), but I was actually really surprised and really invested in this one! The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt follows the life of a young boy named Theo. Tragedy strikes when he and his mother end up in a weird terrorist type accident and his mom dies. From there, Theo's life takes a dramatic turn. He ends up going to live with his dad (who's an ex-alcoholic, but now a full time gambler) in Las Vegas where he meets the wildly fun Boris. Boris is best described as every parents worst nightmare. He's wild, loves to drink and do drugs, and just get into mischief. From there, Theo's life becomes more complex and twisted. The book has so many twists and turns ranging from antique furniture fraud to art theft and everything in between.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I thought the character development was really powerful and it felt very human. Tartt addresses everyday issues in such a unique way. I also love when I cannot figure out how a book will end or where the story is taking me, and it felt like an adventure going through these pages. The ending left me feeling both satisified and uneasy, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since!
