The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

"By you, I am forever undone."
Ahhhh!! This book totally destroyed me. The character development was beautiful, the ending was so sweet, and the in between was just amazing. It starts right where the second book left off: Jude pissed at being exiled and throwing herself into wild situations she shouldn't be getting involved in...so in other words: Jude just being Jude. It kicks off when she goes back to help Taryn out. Now, I have to say I am SHOCKED that Taryn did that, even though I have been wanting to do that to Locke since book 1. I never saw that coming and I wish there was a little more to it. I felt like that was something that just quickly came up and got Jude back into Elfhame, but hey, there were no tears spilled over him. The story continues in its typical fast pace. It involves even more tricky word play and riddles that are continuously used throughout the book. I think that that is some of my favorite things about this book: all of the words spoken will always have a double meaning that will come back to bite us in the ass. It kept me on my toes and it kept me re-reading certain phrases to see what I might have missed!
"You were always good," he says, looking down at me. "Just never good enough."
Lets talk about Madoc! He infuriated me in the best way. Black writes him in such a way that his actions are so selfish yet his words reflect actual love for his kids. I think he genuinly loved Jude, in the best way he can love, but I also think he saw nothing more but an enemy at the end. I also think he was proud of her. She was one of the only people that continued to throw him off his game, challenge him, and even beat him at times. I think that he was a steady villan throughout the novels, and that I would LOVE to have a novella of him trying his best in the mortal world.
"Even now, it is shabby, worm-eaten, and scabrous thing. But it is yours."
Cardan, you bastard. I was content with my current list of book boyfriends I had, but now I have to just keep adding. His character development is one of my favorites. He goes from dick-head to less of a dick-head, and its great. He treats Jude like an equal, he values what she thinks, and I think he's afraid of her power sometimes. I LOVED the whole enemies to lovers troupe in this, because they so openly talked about how disgusted they were with each other WHILE making out. It was great. He genuinly loves her and is working towards being more open with her. She is also changing for the better with him. They are one badass couple and I'm proud of all the things they accomplished. He really embraced his High King status and it made him such a better person.
Lastly, I hope Vivi and Heather really stay together and that Heather gets the chance to remember. I hope that Taryn keeps going in the right path and stops being a little dick. She really annoyed me, but she turned for the better in this book, so I can't be too mad. I hope Oak keeps loving being in the mortal world, I don't think it would be a terrible thing to have a soft hearted king one day. Grima Mog is the best person in this ENTIRE book. I wish to have seen more of her. She's so funny. My heart also goes out to the Roach and the Bomb. I hope they stay in the shadows and in love because they deserve it so much.
"To family and Faerieland and pizza and stories and new beginnings and scheming great schemes."
All in all, this series resparked the joy of YA novels in my heart. It reminded me of my love for reading and for falling in love with characters and of staying up til late at night to finish a book. I couldn't recommend this book series enough. It will definitely be one that I return to time and time again.
